Ebony Blackwood Installed Dash Trim KitAn Avalon for the American Market

Designed with US streets and highways in mind, the 3rd-generation Avalon ran from 2005-’12. Originally, four types were offered. The Touring edition was exclusive in that it was OEM tuned, with 17-inch tires, a more strongly modified suspension, an all-black cabin and metal trim. “Sporty” is a subjective adjective, though, since even this Avalon was modified more for relaxation than doing laps.

Dissimilar to earlier Avalons, this one couldn’t be had with bench seats in the front. But there was adequate room in the top side and a lot of legroom in back. The components were mostly first-rate and construction was outstanding overall.

Few Changes to the Avalon in Its Previous Generation

Changes throughout this iteration were few and far between. The 3.5-liter V6 was first ranked for 280 hp, but improved SAE ranking techniques decreased that to 268 hp, beginning with the 2006 style year. Avalons from 2005 to 2007 had a five-speed auto shifter instead of the later six-speed, so anticipate a little bit less performance and gas mileage from these previously designs. For 2009, balance control became a standard option and the Touring and XLS trim levels were cut.
